Due to security concerns, Arakan State Election Sub-Commission is unable to display the lists of eligible voters in 51 villages in six townships in northern Arakan State.

People from the 51 villages have fled to the nearby IDP camps due to the lack of security caused

by the ongoing fighting. Some villages have been abandoned, while other villages have no ward and village administrators to arrange the display the voter lists.”.

The affected townships are Ann, Minbya, MraukU, Kyauktaw, Yathaedaung and Buthedaung Townships, said Daw Tin Hlaing, Chair of Arakan State Election Sub-Commission.

“The sub-commission is unable to display the lists of voters in 51 villages of 22 village-tracts in six townships,” she added. There are more than 40,000 people in 51 villages.

Daw Tin Hlaing added “There is no one left in some villages. Some villages face the

resignation of village administrators. As there is no village administrator who will take responsibility for a display of voter lists, it is impossible for the sub-commission to display the lists”

There are 1.6 million eligible voters in Arakan State.
