Universities will start receiving the enrollment of students for distance education for the 2021 Academic Education as from mid-July.
An official from Mawlamyine Distance Education Branch said: “We have received an order for enrollment. The exact date for attendance has yet to be fixed. There is still the spread of Covid-19.”
Students for B.Sc. courses (first batch) are to attend the classes on Saturday and Sunday. The exam for the B.sc course will take place in the first and second week of October.
The students for B.A courses (second batch) are to attend the 10-day intensive training in the third week of October while the exams will take place in the first week of November, according to the statements by the respective distance education departments.
The training course for B.A (third batch) will open in the second and third week of November. The exam will take place in the fourth week of November.
A third-year student from Mawlamyine Distance Education University said: “The B.sc courses will first open. Whether the students will attend the classes or not depends on their desires. I think the number of distance students will be low as the number of day students is relatively low.”
The final year courses for the universities, colleges and degree colleges under the Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education reopened on May 5th. Only 10 percent of students have returned to school.
The first semester courses for all subjects and the distance education courses in Mawlamyine University were closed since March 24th, 2020 as the Covid-19 case was first detected in Myanmar.
In the third wave of Covid-19, more than 100 people including students and staff have been infected with Covid-19, according to the Mawlamyine University Students’ Union.
