Mon National College to Sign MOUs with Four International Universities Within a Year

Mon National Education Committee (MNEC) announced that Mon National College is planning to sign Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) with four international universities within the year 2024, as part of its efforts to strengthen higher education collaborations. They plan to sign agreements with universities in Thailand, the United States, and other countries.

Mon National College was established to provide continuing education for Mon ethnic students, and it has been seeking partnerships with international universities to enhance higher education opportunities for its students. The college has made progress in securing agreements with several institutions.

Among the universities expected to enter into an MOU are the Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Bangkok, Payap University in Chiang Mai, Rajabhat University, and Purdue University in Fort Wayne, USA. According to college officials, these agreements will create opportunities for Mon students to pursue higher education abroad.

An MOU with Payap University in Chiang Mai was signed on February 8th, 2024. On November 7th, 2024, the college plans to sign an MOU with Purdue University in the United States.

Dr. Nai Pone Nyar Mon, the head of Mon National College, said, "we are working hard to secure MOUs with universities both in Thailand and abroad. As a college, we have been steadily building partnerships with international universities to enhance higher education opportunities for our students. We believe that as we continue our efforts, we will be able to sign more MOUs. For this year, we plan to finalize agreements with three more universities, and in the coming years, we expect this number to grow."

In December 2024, the Mon National College plans to sign an MOU with Rajabhat University in Chiang Mai, Thailand. A meeting was held on August 8th, 2024, between officials from Mon National College and Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University in Bangkok, with plans to prepare for an MOU signing.

The MOUs are expected to include agreements for dual-degree programs, student exchanges, and collaborative research initiatives, as well as a commitment to fostering greater cooperation in education, administration, and overall academic development.

Mon National College, which is located in the Mon State’s Yechaungpya region, was officially opened in June 2022. Currently, the college has around 300 students enrolled, receiving education in various academic fields.
