Two youngsters were shot dead by security forces near the traffic post in Maungngan ward in Mawlamyine Township in Mon State on June 20th.
“The two victims were from Abit village in Belugyun-Chaungsone Township, namely Ko Moe Zaw Oo and Ko Zaw Min Oo. They were shot dead near the Kyaukmethway traffic post while on their way back to the village by motorbike at around 8 pm,” said a member of a philanthropic organization from Mawlamyine Township.
Security were forces checking motorbikes at the traffic point. Local people said that the victims were shot as they did not stop a the checkpoint.
The bodies of those killed were left on the road. Our philanthropic organization had to carry the dead bodies away sent them to the mortuary.”
On the afternoon of June 21st, the bodies of victims were buried at the cemetery of Abit village. The military council did not give any explanation for the cause of death.
Section 144 (nighttime curfew) from 10 pm to 4 am remains in place in Mawlamyine Township.
During the period of curfew order, there have been eight deaths, and more than 300 persons remain in detention.
