More than 56,000 persons will be removed from the list of eligible voters in Mon State, said U Tin Chal, head of Mon State Immigration Department.
He claimed “More than 100 people are prisoners. More than 1,000 people are found to be insane. It is the duty of the commission to remove the ineligible voters from the lists.”.
Since late May, more than 2,400 volunteers conducted field inspections in Mon State. More than 300,000 people are found to have no NRC cards.
The Immigration Department plans to issue the national registration card (NRC) until mid-October for legitimate voters included in the lists who still have no NRC cards.
The department found that of the 56,284 ineligible persons included in the voter list—2,209 persons were under the age of 18, 1849 persons have entered monkhood, 70 were foreigners, 5,245 persons who passed away, 3,051 persons with appeared more than once on the list,157 prisoners, 1,313 persons with mental illness, 36,919 persons who migrated to other regions.
More than 200,000 persons checked the lists of voters. Over 20,000 persons have applied to the espective election sub-commission for making corrections to errors in the lists, according to the Mon State Election Sub-Commission.
U Hein Lin Htet, Secretary of Mon State Election Sub-Commission said: “Ward and village election sub-commission corrects the errors in the lists according to the Election Law. We correct t errors in names caused by typing errors.”
In 2020 General Election, there are around 200,000 first-time voters in Mon State. Mon State has more than 1,760,000 eligable voters.
