A total of 47 people have been killed and 456, detained in Chin State since the February 1st Coup, according to the lists compiled by the Chin Human Rights Organization (CHRO).
After the coup, the military council released 275 of 515 Chin detainees across the country, and there have been 76 deaths, according to the records of the CHRO.
Out of the 456 people detained by junta forces in Hakha Township topped the list with 288. Now 253 detainees have been released with 172 from Hakha Township.
“There is no reason why the detainee cannot be brought before a court. But now the detainee has no right to have a trial. They should not arrest people without giving any reason. They check the people and mobile phones on the streets, the military destroy and raid houses and treat the people like animals,” said Salai Ban Byat Htan, Program Director of Chin Human Rights Organization.
Many arrests are based on peaceful protests, banging pots and pans, or alleged links to the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), participation in the CDM, but also arrests with no apparent reason.
The CHRO said it has received evidence about the torture and beating of detainees during the detention.
It continues to make an investigation into the cases. There have been 47 deaths in Chin State. Most of those killed were shot dead by gun.
Among deaths are some IDPs. There have been two deaths during the detention.
The junta troops the destruction and taking of materials, the destruction of public properties and the taking and killing of animals.
