Karen Youth Network (Mon State) has issued a statement on September 8th that the NLD has not respected ethnic rights and calls for voters to cast their votes only for the candidates from Mon and Pa-O political parties in the constituencies, where the Karen parties are unable to compete in Mon State.
Saw Thauk kyar, an in-charge of Karen Youth Network (Mon State) said: “Our network supports the ethnic parties as only ethnic parties should deal with ethnic affairs.
“The statement continues “In the time of the NLD-led government, the officials turned a blind eye to our ethnic affairs. For instance like the Chaungsone case. The government tried to forcibly change the name of the bridge into General Aung San Bridge.”
Karen youth will help the Karen People’s Party (KPP) in canvassing in Mon State. They believe that only Karen parties can implement the interest, needs and rights of Karen nationals.
Saw Thau Kyar urged other ethnic parties to pay more attention to ethnic affairs rather than other issues.
The KPP will compete in eight constituencies in Mon State—two seats for lower house parliament, one for upper house parliament, four for Mon State parliament and one for Karen Ethnic Affairs minister.
Mon Unity Party will compete in 35 townships except Bilin and Thaton Townships in Mon State. Pa-O National Federation will compete in three constituencies.
