Rev Samson, the Chair of the Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) released a statement which read, “For all civilians to reclaim their long-lost human rights and to possess peaceful and secured future, the Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) KBC prays for a government which truly cares to work for civilians according to its statement released three days after the military coup.”
Kachin Baptist Convention (KBC) also stated “as a religious institution, which unfailingly stands on the side of civilians and righteousness according to the teaching of the Bible.” Due to the belief of KBC, “we demand a government which is in favor of fairness and justice. And we absolutely oppose the centralized authoritarian government.”
The Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) committed to advancement of ethnic rights and a federal union, has yet to release their statement about the military coup.
The KBC is deeply concern about the military coup on Kachin affairs, especially how it may impact the ongoing safe return of IDPs at the time of this pandemic.
Rev Samson of the KBC added “Our statement aims to show that the religion is to stand on the truth, “concluding that “Both the army and the NLD government cannot provide any solution for the ethnic people (in Kachin State). If we remain silent at this time it is not fruitful, and it would amount to the agreement with injustice.”
The KBC has called on its members to do fasting for 12 hour or 24 hours for justice.
