India will tighten the security and controls along the border between India-Myanmar since the number of Covid-19 cases in Reedkhawdar Township in Chin State of Myanmar has recently skyrocketed.
Reedkhawdar Town where the No.2 border trade camp is located along the border in Chin State, has seen a huge increase in the daily number of Covid-19 cases.
On June 22nd, Champhai District Bawrhsap, Maria C.T Zuali Deputy Commissioner held a meeting with officials about the rising number of Covid-19 cases. The meeting mainly focused on the plan to tighten security at the India-Myanmar border gate, according to The Aizawl Post, a local newspaper.
Maria C.T Zuali said: “Despite the shutdown of the border gate a long time ago, there are still inflows of illegal goods and narcotic drugs. In addition, there is the inflow and outflow of people via other entry points. We need to strictly control these cases and to be cautious about the spread of Covid-19 in Champhai District.”
Kyanphine District in Mizoram State on India-Myanmar shares the border with Chin State. Most of the IDPs are taking shelter in the district.
Due to the fighting between the Chinland Defense Force (CDF) and the military council in Chin State, more than 500 IDPs have fled to Champhai District in Mizoram State. Around 500 people have been left stranded on the India-Myanmar border.
There are 1,055 IDPs in Farkawn village, 223 in Vaphai, 172 in Khawbung village, 165 in Thekte village and 151 in Chawngtui village of Champhai District in Mizoram State of India.
A plan is underway to build the relief camps for the IDPs in Farkawn, Vaphai and Zawlsei villages through the cooperation between the Central YMA and the MLA Pu Ramthanmawia.
