Three cancellations of court hearings for two people including Associate Secretary of the Taungup Township Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) Ko Kyaw Kyaw Lin, has caused distress to their families.
Ko Aung Min Naing, Joint-Secretary of the Taungup ALD said: “The court hearing did not take place at the court appearance on May 18th as the judge was absent. This is the third time there has been a postponement. I don’t know why it always gets postponed.
However U Khin Maung Htay, a lawyer explained, “The court hearing cannot be held as the judge went to Thandwe Township to attend a meeting. The previous court hearing was canceled due to a power shortage. The court appearance is held via video conferencing. Today all the witnesses attended the court appearance. The court hearings were canceled for three times. It has going on for one and a half months.” The next court hearing is scheduled for June 1st.
The police arrested ALD Joint-Secretary U Kyaw Kyaw Lin, Ko Min Hlaing Tun and Ko Zarni Htoo Htoo from Taungup Township in Arakan State on the morning of February 28th when they were preparing to stage a protest.
U Maung Htwe Khaing, Deputy Head of the Taungup Township Administration Council filed a case against them under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code.
The State Administration Council (SAC) issued an arrest warrant for U Myo Kyaw, General Secretary of the ALD for the CDM on March 10th.
