The police released eight out of 14 detainees who participated in the anti-coup protest in Narnattaw Ward in Loikaw Township in Kayah State on the evening of May 13th.
On May 12nd, the junta troops brutally cracked down on peaceful protests. A total of 14 people including a female aged under 18 were detained in the crackdown. These four males and 10 female detainees.
Six females and two males were released. One female with a disability remains in detention.
The release of some detainees came after the coordination between the military council and some EAOs in Kayah State, town-elders and the protest committee
According to the coordination, the junta will consider the situation of detainees based on the removal of barricades in the ward and the end of protests.
The detainees are expected to be charged under Section 505 of the Penal Code.
Anti-coup protests are taking place in some wards of Loikaw Township. The junta troops are making brutal crackdowns on the protestors.
Since the coup, the people in Kayah State have been regularly staging protests against the military dictatorship. Up to May 13th, four people have been killed and many protestors detained by the junta.
