The Basic Education Department has temporarily suspended 914 teachers and staff for joining the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) in Mohnyin Township in Kachin State.
The department suspended them citing the violation of Civil Service Personnel Law as of May 7th.
A CDM teacher said: “I joined the CDM. The junta forced staff to repay loans granted during the COVID-19 period, which is equivalent to two months’ salary. I don’t want to repay it.”
Universities in Mohnyin Township also temporarily suspended lecturers who joined the CDM.
The basic education department temporarily suspended 937 staff, school heads and teachers from the Education Officer Offices at State, District and Township levels in Kachin State.In addition, the staff from the electricity and railways departments have been temporarily suspended.
