The Arakan League for Democracy (ALD) will not accept the military dictatorship. U Kyaw Myint, Chair of the ALD said: “The military dictatorship system is not democratic. The public have to suffer evil consequences from the principles laid down and practiced by the military dictatorship that goes against the will of most of the people.
U Kyaw Myint, Chair of the ALD “Take a look at the country’s history, the ALD said each time the army seized the power in the post-independence period, they cited various reasons and then set up a military dictatorship. It tarnishes the country’s image among the international community.”
The ALD statement issued February 6th on the army’s taking the country’s power after declaring a State of Emergency declared “The Union Election Commission (UEC) has declared the lists of winning
candidates for the General Elections held on November 8th, 2020. The army took the power at a time when preparations were being made to hear the complaints filed at the UEC. For the interest of the
citizens, the ALD urged all those involved to seek the solution to the differences in the lists of voters through the peaceful cooperation.“
The ALD chair asserted “The history indicates that the military dictatorship is also the cause of the people sinking in deep poverty. We no longer want the military dictatorship or the democracy
dictatorship (a reference to many Arakanese people who were also opposed to the NLD government.).We wish to building up a federal democratic union.”
