Although there has been no fighting between the military council and the People’s Defense Force in recent days, more than 2,000 IDPs from Kanpetlet Township in Chin State don’t dare to go home.

“The Red Cross has officially opened an IDP camp in Sawlaung village in Kanpetlet Township. There are around 400 IDPs in Anyartakin village. We have heard the news that there are more the IDPs in Teegone and Longshae villages. The total number of IDPs has reached around 1,400,” said a Red Cross member helping the IDPs in Kanpetlet Township.

As the rainy season has set in, the IDPs hiding in the forests in Kanpetlet Township have to use banana leaves and tree leaves as they have no shelters.

They are also in need of food, medicine and other assistance.

The Red Cross in Kanpetlet Township has opened an IDP camp. Some people from the urban area are taking shelter in their native villages and Saw Township.

Since June 3rd, the Red Cross in Kanpetlet Township has provided the IDPs with medicine, food, clothes and rain-proof sheets.
