The Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) formed with the regional People’s Defense Forces and some other armed organizations adopts the defense policy of the National Unity Government (NUG), said the spokesperson of the KNDF.
The KNDF was formed on May 31st.
“The KNDF is working under the policies issued by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) and the NUG. The KNDF follows the rules issued by them.
The Ministry of Defense under the NUG issued the seven-point defense policy with the aim of ensuring that the defense sector will be under democratic control and in accordance with a federal system.
The policy covers the area of leadership, the laying down and implementation of defense policy, the checks and balance of the defense sector by the legislative and judicial power, defense management, the enforcement of internationally recognized laws and ethics, the designation of titles and duties, financial management and resource sharing.
The KNDF formed in accord with the defense policies of the NUG covers three Karenni State-based PDFs, two PDFs based in Shan State and some EAOs, he added.
"The KNDF is formed with the PDFs. It comprises the PDFs which are officially announced. For example, there are eight townships in Karenni State. They are Loikaw PDF, Demawso PDF, Namkhone PDF, Moebye PDF and Phalkhone PDF. Currently, it is a merger of PDFs from five townships. Some organizations are also included in the KNDF. The main organization is the Karenni National Progressive Paty (KNPP). The EAOs here are in harmony with the public,” said the spokesperson of the KNDF.
Currently, the fighting between the junta troops and the PDFs has intensified. The junta carried out attacks using heavy weapons and fighter planes.
The KNDF is a merger of scattered PDFs and local EAOs to carry out defensive operations and root out the military dictatorship, he continued.
