The junta’s troops have been firing heavy weapons on the KIA’s camps near Konelaw village in Myothit, Moemauk Township in Kachin State throughout the day, after the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) shot down a military helicopter.

“The situation is more likely to get worse. The army is angry over KIA shooting down the army’s helicopter. Since 3 am on May 4th, the army has been attacking the KIA’s camps with heavy weapons,” a local in Moemauk reported.

The KIA shot down one of two military helicopters on the morning of May 3rd.

The army carried out indiscriminate attacks after the military helicopter was shot down. Heavy shells landed in the compound of Myothit monastery killing four people including a monk and wounding at least eight others.

The wounded were admitted to the military hospital in Bhamo Township.
