Security forces have occupied Mawlamyine University and Mawlamyine Technological University in Mon State since March 6th.

A human rights activist from Mawlamyine said: “Security forces don’t try to solve problems by peaceful means. They only make the situation worse. The shootings of unarmed civilians are not only human rights violations but also killing people.

Despite the brutal crackdowns by the security forces, the people have continued their anti-coup protests in Mawlamyine, Thaton, Yay, Belin, Kyaikmayaw, Kyaikhto, Mudon, Thanbyuzayat and Theinzayat Townships.

Security forces used sound mines, teargas, rubber bullets and live ammunition to disperse the pro-democracy protestors. The brutal crackdowns resulted in deaths, injuries and arrests.

Mg Zin Myo Thu, 21 was shot in the head and killed on February 28th and third-year geology student Maung Htet Wai Htoo, 23, on March 3rd.

Security forces have intensified their brutal crackdowns and deployed their troops in the public areas while the anti-coup protests have gained momentum in cities across the country.
