A Mawlamyine-Yangon passenger train went back to Mawlamyine Station as the protestors blocked the railroad on the morning of February 16th.
A staff from Myanmar Railways told the Mon News Agency: “The train left Mawlamyine Station at around 8.50 am. A group of people blocked the road at the corner. The train was unable to head to Yangon as many people flocked to the place. The train went back to Mawlamyine Station at around 11.30 am.”
Two-third of railway staff in Mawlamyine have joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM). Some staff still go to the office. Some staff who are going to take retirement soon go to the office and avoid being sacked. A staff who goes to the office said: “I don’t join the CDM as I have applied for the pension. I fear that I may get sacked.”
The anti-coup protests are taking place across Mon State daily.
