A police major was reportedly killed and some police members were wounded, in an attack by the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) in Mansi Township in Kachin State on May 3rd according to locals.
A local said: “I heard he (police officer) was shot dead by a sniper. I don’t know the details about it. It is difficult for the public to exactly know what is happening at the police station.”
The KIA attacked the Mansi Myoma Police Station at around 8 pm on May 3rd.
There were clashes between the junta’s forces and the KIA, according to locals.
A local said: “I heard the sounds of around 20 artillery shells fired at the Khamaya-319 Light Infantry Battalion based in Mansi Township. I heard the news that some police members from the police station ran away.”
Police Major Hein Htet was killed and Chief of Police Min Min was severely wounded in the attack.
As the fighting between the army and the KIA has intensified in Moemauk Township since the first week of April, locals from around ten villages have fled to safer places.
