The Union Election Commission (UEC) formed by the junta has informed all political parties to send the list of party members as all political parties may have changed the number of its members, during this period.
The political parties are to send the lists of party members by September 30.
A party must have a minimum of 1,000 members in the whole country. If a party has 10,000 members, it has to send the list of members to the UEC. The UEC formed by the military council sent the letters to the political parties on June 10th to send the lists of party members.
Naing San Tin, Joint-Secretary-2 of the Mon Unity Party (MUP) said: “The MUP doesn’t need to send the new list of party members as it has already sent the lists of resigned party members. In the time of the now-defunct UEC, the MUP sent the list of around 1,200 party members.”
According to Section 5 (f) of the Political Parties Registration Law and 13 (a) of the bylaws, political parties shall send the lists of party members to the UEC after they have been registered as political parties. As the UEC wants to know the actual number of party members, all political parties are to required to send two copies of lists of party members by compiling the lists with Form-H.
“As far as I know the UEC mainly wants to know the list of CEC members. The UEC already has that list. In fact, here is no need to send these lists. The UEC asks for confirmation from the CEC. They ask for the biographies of members before,” he added.
According to the list of the Union Election Commission (UEC), there are 93 registered political parties.
