Bitter divisions in the Mon Unity Party (MUP) after the February over a majority vote in support of engagement with the junta’s SAC triggering outage from some senior MUP stalwarts, has led to the formation of new alliance of Mon anti-coup groups to be known as the Mon Affairs Organization, said Naing Mon Yar Zar who had earlier resigned from the MUP.
Mon Affairs Organization will comprise some people who resigned from the MUP, the Mon Literature and Culture Association, and the Mon Economic Association and other Mon-based organizations, he added.
“We plan to name it the Mon Affairs Organization. We are working on the organizational setup. In around second week of May, the organizational set-up will be discussed. It is expected to launch the organization in May,” he continued.
Mon Affairs Organization will discuss and implement the matters relating to the Mon national affairs. The formation of the Mon Affairs Organization aims to collectively represent the interests of all Mon people, and the entire nation through the collection of all Mon groups, he added.
A total of 34 central executives and central committee members resigned from the MUP on May 24th representing a major blow to the future of the MUP, that has isolated itself from the massive anti-
coup momentum that has been strongly endorsed by other ethnic parties, most EAOs, and the CDM movement backed by a great many Mon communities.
