Nai Layi Tama, Joint Secretary-1 of the MUP (Mon United Party) has denied the news that the MUP has formed an alliance with the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP). The MUP has not made an alliance with any parties apart from ethnic parties.
“During the current canvassing period, some opposition parties accused our party of being in alliance with the USDP, but our party has rejected these wrong accusations.” Nai Lay Tama asserted. Some members of the USDP attended the talks given by the MUP’s candidates during the canvassing in Asin and Zeephyuthaung villages in Yay Township on October 5. The MUP responded that any persons or any party members can attend the canvassing.
The MUP is a member of the 13-member UNA (United Nationalities Alliance) and the 15-member NBF (Nationalities Brotherhood Federation). The MUP has made cooperation with the ethnic parties from five states. The MUP has urged the public not to be deluded by the false accusations.
The MUP is a merger of Mon National Party (MNP) and the All Mon Region Democracy Party (AMDP). The MUP is an ethnic party that has a desire to form a coalition government if the Mon-based parties secured the seats in the upcoming election.
