Thirty-three more party members including the CEC members have resigned in disgust over the appointment of MUP officials to serve in the State arm –run Administration Council. Army.
The MUP has taken one post for the State Administration Council and one for the Mon State Administration Council.
This controversial MUP decision runs counter to majority ethnic support and especially EAOs for the CDM anti-coup movement. The total number of disillusioned MUP members who resigned from the Mon Unity Party (MUP) stands at 54
On March 26th, those who resigned from the party are: Dr. Min Kyi Win and Naing Soe Myint, members of the Central Joint Secretariat of the MUP, the central executives former Mon State law-maker Dr. Min Soe Lin and elected candidate Naing Mon Yazar and 11 central committee members and seven township executive members
Two-thirds of the CEC members approved the inclusion of its members in the SAC, at the emergency meeting on March 16. In response, 21 CEC members resigned from the party. Now a total of 54 members have resigned from the party.
Dr. Aung Naing Oo, Former Deputy Speaker of the Mon State Parliament and CEC member resigned after the MUP decided to take the offer for inclusion in the SAC, at its emergency meeting in February.
On March 24, five CEC members and some township-level members submitted their resignation letters on social media, citing the MUP’s decision goes against its policies.
The MUP was formed in 2019 with the Mon National Party (MNP), the All Mon Region Democracy Party and Mon CSOs.
