The Kachin State People’s Party (KSPP) MP U Gwan Gaung Aung Kham has strongly protested the very close election result in Swanparabwan Township by only 94 votes, as unfair contest with foul play used to gain a slender win for the USDP opposition, a military proxy party.
MP U Gwan Gaung Aung Kham, a candidate from the KSPP had told the media that he worried about the chance of being re-elected in Swanparabwan Township due to the role of the Myanmar army.
U Aung Kham who competed in the constituency in Swanparabwan Township said: “We cannot sign the Form-16 or Form-19 as we cannot agree on that.
The UEC said the result is final whether Form-19 is signed or not. We don’t sign it as we feel unfair and don’t accept Bamar chauvinism.”
U Naw Khone, Youth Affairs In-Charge of the party claimed the USDP party “secured the seat by votes from the army, it is unfair and that is why we refused to sign Form-19 (which approves the final election result) in three constituencies.
The KSPP candidate accused the USDP of disinformation campaign against KSPP in Machanbaw Township.
That party has signed a pledge not to do it. This party continued and also engaged in vote buying.
The candidates from the KSPP, who did not sign the Form-19 are: candidate U Kwan Kayaw Aung Kham from Swanparabwan Township, U Phone Hsan from Machanbaw Township Constituency-2 and U Lwan Zaung from Waingmaw Township Constituency-2.
Vote counting about Form-19 is described in the pages-21 and 23 of the guideline for Township Election Sub-Commission.
The election guideline said “According to Section 4 of the Election Law, the candidates or the polling representative shall sign the Form-19 which combines the list of votes. (Form-16) sent by the polling stations and the advance votes (Form-18).
The candidates who fail to sign the Form-19 shall take responsibility for it.
The KSPP secured four seats in three constituencies in the 2020 General Elections but insists they would have won many more if it had been a free and fair election.
