The Karen National Party (KNP) refused to be included in the military -created State Administration Council on February 4th

The army offered to include the KNP in the State Administration Council.” I think it is the State Level Administration Council”, however, a party official added, “we have weak links among the party members after the election. The party is not ready “.

But the real reason is probably because The KNP is a member of the United Nationalities Alliance (UNA), a coalition of ethnic political parties. Many ethnic parties have refused to accept the offers made by the army to be included in the new post-coup regime.

According to the statement by the army, Saw Tun Aung Myint, Chair of the Kayin People’s Party (KPP) has been appointed as the Union Minister for Ethnic Affairs in the State Administration Council but KPP  was angry and declared him expelled from their party.
