Kachin Independence Army (KIA) ambushed a military convoy heading from Bhamo to Laiza where the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) headquarters is located, near Dawphoneyan Township.
A local from Dawphoneyan Township told the Kachin News Group that at around 10.30 am on June 18th, the KIA ambushed seven vehicles carrying around 200 soldiers near Uhtanyan village.
The army deploys additional troops in Khayarbwan. He did not know the details about causalities.
The army has deployed reinforcements along the Bhamo Road and transporting rations and supplies as it makes a renewed attempt at re-capturing Alaw Bum Hill base.
The KIA captured Alaw Bum on March 25, one of its numerous attacks against the new junta, which seized power in a February 1 coup, and has since killed more than 800 civilian people across the country.
The Tatmadaw had deployed hundreds of ground troops and at least two fighter jets as part of its previous offensive to retake he Alaw Bum hill station, which sits roughly 30km south of KIA headquarters in Laiza.
But the KIA held its ground, with the junta’s forces reported to have suffered heavy losses, including a commanding officer of an infantry battalion was killed during the fighting.
