The Rural Development Department in Kayah State has dismissed 40 staff who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) from the District and Township offices.

A junior engineer-2 who got sacked said: “I have already known I may get fired. I joined the CDM according to my conviction.”

“Most of the CDM staff are from this region. We have no accommodation difficulty as we live where we were born. The main point is we have to do other jobs for a living. But other staff who want to join the CDM face accommodation problems. As they come from other parts of the country, they have to continue doing their work, he added.

Due to the pressure from above, 79 of 155 staff from the Kayah State Rural Development Department, who joined the CDM since February 8th have returned to work.

The department dismissed two officers and 38 staff.
