Fuel stations in Hpakant Township in Kachin State are selling fuels under a quota system since April 30th according to locals. A local source explained,

“A person is allowed to buy fuel worth up to Ks-10,000. Today fuel stations sell fuel worth Ks-2,000 for a motorbike.”

People are flocking to the fuel stations to buy fuels as the army has banned the inflow of fuel into Hpakant Township since April 28th.

Since an import ban was imposed the price of fuel per gallon has

increased from Ks-4,500 to Ks15,000.

Locals are worried about the possible increase in commodity prices following the spike in fuel prices.
