The CNLD party is strongly opposed to any recognition of the army’s SAC.
However, U Kyaw Nyein a CNLD candidate in the 2020 election, who has accepted a post in the new Chin State Administration Council formed by the army’s State Administration Council, has been pressured to resign from CNLD party.
U Kyaw Nyein served as the Chin State Minister for Forestry and Mining in the time of the government led by President U Thein Sein.“I accepted the offer as I want to work for Chin State which has lagged behind developments,” U Kyaw Nyein said.
He has faced widespread criticism after he accepted the army’s offer to serve as a member of the Chin State Administration Council. U Kyaw Nyein served as the Chin State Minister for Forestry and Mining in the time of the government led by President U Thein Sein. “I accepted the offer as I want to work for Chin State which has lagged behind developments,” U Kyaw Nyein said.
He also served as the Vice-Chair of the Chin Progressive Party (CPP) and as the Chair of the Khumi Affairs Coordination Council (KACC). He failed to win the lower house seat for Paletwa Township in the 2020 General Election representing the CNLD, a merger of three Chin parties.
