Since May 21st, the fighting between the PDFs and the military council has intensified in Karenni State and with over 100,000 locals force to flee the fighting and major humanitarian crisis is occurring with farming and food production closed down in man areas.
Karenni State experiences fighting between the PDFs and the military council every day. Due to the indiscriminate shooting and the firing of heavy shelling, people from the urban area as well as from the rural areas, are flocking to the safer places.
Fleeing farmers in Karenni State are concerned about their survival as they are unable to do farming. The destruction of bridges on the Union Road has delayed the flow of commodities and led to a shortage of food. Farmers from urban areas are unable to do farming any longer.
Only a handful of rural farmers can do farming. But they are facing difficulty in buying agriculture inputs such as fertilizers and pesticides.
A farmer said: “Farmers have many difficulties. We need diesel for plouging. There is a shortage of fertilizers.”
