The draft of the Federal Union Constitution of the interim National Unity Government (NUG) will be finalized in December.
This decision arrived at the meeting held by the NUG on May 18th.
“The first draft of the federal union constitution will be written between May and October in 2021. It is known that the final draft will be completed in December 2021,” according to the NUG’s PVTV.
In its statement on Public Voice TV, the NUG said: “We aim to put forward all the basic information which can guarantee democracy, national equality and self-determination based on freedom, equality and justice, in the draft federal democracy union constitution.”
A commission has been formed to draft the federal union constitution submitted by the NUG’s the Ministry of Federal Union, and to supervise all drafting processes, according to the PVTV.
The supervisory committee for drafting the federal union constitution is chaired by the Vice-President Duwa Lashi La and vice-chaired by Prime Minister Mahn Win Khaing Than while the union ministers will serve as the members, Union Minister for Federal Affairs Dr. Hlyan Hmon Sar Khaung as secretary and Deputy Ministers for Federal Union Affairs U Chit Tun and Mai Win Htoo as joint-secretaries.
After the military coup on February 1st, the elected candidates of the National League for Democracy which secured the majority seat in the elections formed the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH).
Then the CRPH released the declaration of a federal democracy charter after the abolishment of the 2008 Constitution drafted by the army.
The CRPH formed the interim National Unity Government (NUG) which comprises the majority if ethnic groups who have long maintained, “The current conflicts can only be ended when we have built a federal union which can guarantee national equality and self-determination.
