Collection of advance votes kicks off in Mawlamyine Township

The Township Election Sub-Commission has started working on the door-to-door collection of advance votes from more than 36,000 voters aged 60 and above in Mawlamyine Township in Mon State, where the stay-at-home rule was imposed on October 29th.

Daw Moe Zin Mar Oo, Secretary of Township Election Sub-Commission related “The collection teams are formed in wards and villages. The team will comprise one member of election sub-commission, one polling station officer or one deputy polling station officer, a person who issues the ballot paper, the representative of a 100-household head or a 10-household, a volunteer and a member of the police.”

Plans are underway to collect advance votes for 119 polling booths in 29 wards and 13 village-tracts in Mawlamyine Township. This process will take place until November 5. According to the current list, there are over 36,000 voters aged 60 and above. But that number may increase based on the ground situation.

U Ye Lin Tun from Mayangone ward Election Sub-Commission said: “Our ward has around 820 voters aged 60 and above. Efforts are being made to ensure the accuracy and swift completion of the advance vote collection process. But it may take two or three days based on the areas of wards.”

 

Candidates from the 13 political parties and one independent candidate will compete in the election in Mawlamyine Township. There are 230,000 voters in Mawlamyine Township alone. There are around 1,840,000 voters in ten townships of Mon State.
