The junta's plan to reopen all schools on June 1st suffered another setback with five out of nine townships unable to reopen schools, with many teachers still backing CDM boycott.

This showed that four months after the coup, military governance of education has not been accepted.

Chin State Education Officer said: “The number of students who went back to schools in Chin State is 4,573. According to the lists in the previous academic year, there were around 100,000 students in Chin State.

Only 4,573 out of 13,032 enrolled students are attending the schools an attendance rate of around only 33 percent.

The school attendance rates in Chin State are 78 in Hakha, 474 in Falam, 1582 in Teedim, 72 in Matupi and 2367 in Paletwa Township.

There is no school attendance in Mindat, Kanpetlet, Htantalan and Tunzan Townships. There are 1,516 government schools and 9,667 teachers in Chin State.

The junta has temporarily suspended 4,237 teachers who have joined the CDM.
