Some civil servants included in the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) have been pressured to return to their offices in Mindat and Hakha Townships in Chin State, due to pressures and threats by the military-approved council.

A local from Hakha Township said: “Senior officers give incentives and put pressures on the CDM staff. They threaten to fire staff. In addition, they offer some senior CDM staff promotion.”

However, more than 14,000 of over 20,000 civil servants in Chin State have joined the CDM, accounting for over 72 percent and most have refused to give up their CDM movement.

In Hakha Township, around 3,000 civil servants joined the CDM.

Currently around 20 staff from the education and health departments went back to their offices owing to pressure and threats.

These staffs are not full-time CDM members.

A local from Mindat Township said: “The military council is sending warning letters to the CDM staff. As far as I know, the authorities are constantly putting pressure on CDM staff. The staff has to give the explanation letter about the reason for joining the CDM. Some CDM staff returned to work.”

In Mindat Township, more than 2,260 civil servants joined the CDM.

Only seven CDM staff returned to the office.
