The Arakan National Party (ANP), a leading Arakanese party said it will compete in the elections when the Tatmadaw holds the elections.
U Kyaw Zaw Oo, Spokesperson of the ANP said: “Despite many disputes in the current crisis, we will have to accept the current situation, as the Tatmadaw has seized power. I am not saying that we accept the military coup but elections were skipped in many major townships in Arakan State and we need to accept the steps taken by the government in power to review it.”
The ANP issued a statement to the public about the six-point statement of the office of the Commander-in-Chief on February 4th.
The army has stated that “a free and fair election will be held in accordance with the 2008 Constitution.
U Hla Myint, Spokesperson of the ALD said: “Currently, our party has not decided whether or not it will compete in the election yet.”
U Than Htay, Spokesperson of the Khami National Development Party said: “Our party will compete in the election if our allies among the Arakanese political parties agree to participate.”
