The authorities have suspended the duties of 59 staff from the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) in Kayah State. The 59 suspended staffers are: 45 from Kayah State General Administration Department, and 14 from Phruso Township General Administration Department.
A suspended GAD staff said: “I will go back to work only when the people-elected government comes to power. I have nothing to say about the temporary suspension of my duty.”
The authorities sent the notification letters to 40 of 45 State GAD staff and informed the other five staff via phone.
In the letter sent to the GAD staff, staff were accused of violating Section 26 (a) of the Constitution, Section 38 of the Civil Servants Law and Section 161 (d) and the 163 (w) of the Service Regulations, as the staff join the CDM and are absent without any reason. The GAD temporarily suspends the duties of staff under Section 171 of the Civil Servants Regulations.
The suspended staff covers the different levels ranging from clerks to cleaners. More than 100 out of more than 500 GAD staff in Kayah State have joined the CDM.
