The Karenni National Progressive Party (KNPP) is synonymous with the people, said the KNPP chair Abel Tweed, in a message sent to the ceremony to mark the 146th Karenni National Day which falls on June 21st.
“I would like to especially urge all Karenni people not to forget the fact that every Karenni has a responsibility to oust the military dictatorship, to bring about the peace and tranquility of Karenni people and to pray for the immediate restoration of peaceful social life,” the chairman said.
“As long as we have the Karenni national spirit and I strongly believe that we can defeat any common enemy. I would like to call on all Karenni nationals to play their parts in the national affairs at the places where they are staying,” he said.
This time, all Karenni nationals are required to put the role of the whole Karenni Nation in the forefront. Only then can the people fight against the military dictatorship and at the same time reconstruct a stable and peaceful human society, he continued.
“On the Karenni National Day, I especially urge all Karenni nationals that they all always need to ensure the flourishing of Karenni national spirit. Unity among Karenni people is urgently needed this time. In addition, there is an urgent need for a common agreement among Karenni nationals along with the right decision during the time of changing political situation.
On June 21st, 1875, the Karenni State was recognized by Burmese King’s Envoy Kinwun Mingyi and the British King’s agent, as a separate and independent one. That is why June 21 was designated as the Karennni National Day.
The 146th Karenni National Day which falls on June 21st was annually held in the Karenni State. But the national day was observed in the Nyarmoe (aka) Tarlaedu which is the headquarters of the KNPP due to the military coup. The ceremony was attended by the KNPP officials, army leaders, soldiers and guests.
