After heavy shelling killed a monk and civilians and also destroyed a monastery and houses in Moemauk Township, Tai-Leng (Shan-ni) Nationalities Development Party (TNDP) has urged the Bhamo District Administration Council to take action to stop the fighting around the villages of Moemauk Township in Bhamo District in Kachin State.

The TNDP sent a letter dated May 26th to the Bhamo District Administration Council signed by U Sai Tin Aung, Chair of the Shan-Ni Nationalities Development Party.

The letter also pointed out that soon the farmers have to do ploughing.

To overcome the difficulties caused by Covid-19 and the political crisis, locals need to do farming peacefully.

The socio-economic status of the people will become worse as the war disrupts and hampers farming. Relevant officials also need to make coordinate for the safety of IDPs.

The letter calls for a five-point measure to be observed

1. To stop fighting near the Shan ethnic villages in Bhamo Township.

2. To seek solutions by avoiding any damage to the public

3. To avoid the firing of small and heavy weapons into plantations and villages.

4. To avoid attacking civilians and religious building

5. To avoid the violations of human rights by all armed groups.

Since April 11th the fighting between the army and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) has displaced indigenous people from Myothit, Sihut, Mongkhat and Makhwal villages in Moemauk Township in Bhamo District. Heavy shelling has destroyed houses and injured the people in the township.
