“More than 40 lecturers and demonstrators who teach the final-year students face temporary suspension for joining the CDM.,” said a demonstrator who joins the CDM. Only three of 63 final-year students from Loikaw Technological University have returned to the university.
A final-year Civil Major student said: “The registrar has pressured some parents of final-year students. Before the coup, we had already done fieldwork. The university still needs to hold the graduation ceremony. Some teachers threaten to expel the students who fail to return to the university. The remaining 60 students will continue protesting against the military dictatorship.”
“We don’t get the B.Tech and GTI certificates as under the previous system. If we are expelled from the university we will not gain certificates and only ranked as ones who passed the matriculation exam. We will continue protesting against the military dictatorship till the end,” he added.
Normally, the second semester of the final-year classes resume in May.
Only a few students have returned to the Loikaw University, Computer University, Education Degree College and Technological Training Schools.
Loikaw Technological University first declared as the first CDM University in Kayah State.
