More than 100 students have returned to Mohnyin University in Kachin State after the reopening, said a student from the Mohnyin University Students’ Union.
“I don’t know exactly what percentage of students returned to university. More and more students come to the university. I think the number of students who return to the university may increase,” he added.
Now the Mohnyin University has just reopened the final year honours and qualifying classes. Before the coup, it would be expected that more than 2,000 students would show up, when all classes have reopened. On March 6th, the Mohnyin University suspended 106 academics and staff for joining the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM).
Currently, the lecturers who moved from other universities are teaching the students, said a student from the Mohnyin University Students’ Union.
Mohnyin Government Technical College temporarily suspended 55 academics and staff from their duties on May 5th.
The 92 percent of students from the Government Technological Universities in Mohnyin have joined the CDM, according to the statement by the Government Technological University Students’ Union.
