A lower house candidate from the National League for Democracy (NLD) has been denied any contact with his family since detention, said wife Daw Kyar Hla Phyu.
U Tun Hlaing lived in the NLD office in Makyeemyaing ward in Sittwe. The police took him at around 6 pm on April 29th.
“I sent clothes, towel, soap, toothpaste and food to the police station as the police members said he asked for food. They said he was being detained for interrogation. I don’t know why he is detained,” she added.
Daw Kyar Hla Phyu said the family was concerned about his situation as they had not got any contact with him. He served as a driver of the ousted Arakan State Chief Minister U Nyi Pu.
He ran for the lower house seat in Sittwe in the 2020 General Elections but failed to win the seat.
