Pro-democracy youth who were arrested for participation in the Global Myanmar Spring Revolution Day Rally on May 2nd, have been detained at the police station in Hpakant Kachin State.

“They are being detained at the police station. The police have not filed a case against them. We are working for the release of all detainees.” Said a local protest leader.

The police arrested 18 protestors, 12 from the Lonekhin protest group and six from a Hmawwan protest group.

They are all being detained at Hpakant Township Police Station. Among 18 detainees, females are in majority and there are children under 18

Police and soldiers brutally cracked down and arrested the protestors while they were gathering to join Lonekhin and Hmawwan protest groups in Hpakant on May 2nd.

Due to the brutal crackdown by the junta’s police and soldiers, Ko Wai Phyo, 33, died and at least five others were injured.

There have been no brutal crackdowns on anti-coup protestors after the KIA (Kachin Independence Army) attacked the police stations and some military camps in mid-April in Hpakant Township.

The junta’s forces again carried out brutal crackdowns on pro-democracy protestors.
