Authorities have ordered the public to quickly remove PSI satellite dishes and threatened to take action against those who fail to abide by it in Namati of Moegaung Township in Kachin State, on April 27th.

A local said: “The military council announced with loudspeakers that the use of Thai PSI satellite dishes is illegal, and the public are ordered to remove satellite dishes.”

People are prohibited from going outside from 8 pm to 4 am. Security forces announced that the people who have kept weapons in their houses are ordered to hand them over.

In late March, the ward administrator and soldiers had issued warnings in Kanhla village in Namati that the people who have installed PSI satellite dishes, must pay a fine of Ks-20,000.

The army is trying to enforce a comprehensive information blackout through the shutdown of mobile internet, and broadband internet.

The public only watch the news telecasted by the DVB and Mizzima TV channels with PSI satellite dishes.

The DVB broadcasts the Ethnic Language TV program (in Kachin Jeinphaw Language) which jointly conducted with the Kachin News Group and the BNI, every Saturday.

Due to the internet ban by the military council, the people in Kachin State can only watch the news via PSI satellite dishes. On April 28, locals in Namati Township took to the street to protest against the ban on satellite dishes.
