Lawyers are only allowed to meet detained anti-coup protestors for seven minutes in Mawlamyine Mon State. Anti-coup protestors and those arrested at home are being detained in Kyaikmayaw prison.
Most of detainees are charged under Section 505 and are facing trial at a separate court inside the jail.
A lawyer said: “I think the authorities should give lawyers sufficient time to meet with their clients. Normally the accused is allowed a meeting with their lawyer lasting at least 15 minutes, before the current crisis. But since the coup lawyers have been restricted to only 7 minutes. And now our clients are also denied more than one visit.”
Of around 80 detainees, around 60 detainees are facing court trials under Section 505 of the Penal Code. They are not allowed to meet their families since their detention.
Security forces have killed 40 people in Zaykyo roundabout on February 28th, 18 in Kwinyat ward on March 3th and 20 in Daingwonkwin on March 25th. Seven people were killed in the brutal crackdowns by the security forces in Mon State. Among those killed are underage children.
