Thousands of females staged an anti-coup protest in Demawso Township in Kayah State on International Women Day which falls on March 8th.
“Today is the International Women Day. The protest column is led by women. Our move is to show that females don’t keep their mouths shut in the fight against the dictatorship,” said a woman who led the protest column.
Females hold the placards bearing the women rights in the march-in protests. A woman who led the protest column said: “We don’t want a military dictatorship. The military dictatorship cannot give safety to women. That is why we absolutely totally protest against it. I would like to give a message to all women in Myanmar that we will continue our fight, till we bring an end to the military dictatorship.
The Women’s Day was first observed on March 19, 1911. It was officially recognized by the UN as the International Women Day on March 8, 1977.
The anti-coup protest was also held in Phroso Township in Loikaw Township.
