Soldiers have occupied Mohnyin University and Mohnyin Government Technological College in Mohnyin Township in Kachin State since the morning of March 7 an official of Mohnyin University Students’ Union reported.
Recently Mohnyin University Students’ Union issued a statement that the army was trying to occupy the Mohnyin University. Lecturers and staff who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) managed to get out of the universities in advance.
89.33 percent of teachers in Mohnyin University have joined the CDM. It was declared as the CDM University on February 17th. The 76.25 percent of teachers and staff from the Mohnyin Government Technological University joined the CDM, and it was declared as the CDM University on February 18th.
After the military coup, the anti-coup protests have erupted in Mohnyin Township. Civil servants from the education, health, railways, electricity, private banks and locals are staging the anti-coup protests every day. Despite tensions between security forces and protestors, so far there have not been any reports of brutal crackdowns on protestors.
