Mon State Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan and some NLD lawmakers are charged under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code according to the NLD officials.
The police filed the case against the chief minister for uploading a video on social media about staff who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM).
“The police arrested the Chief Minister,” an official of the Mon State NLD related and “The General Administration Department filed the case against the lawmakers under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code for their participation in the anti-coup protests. Some lawmakers are already behind the bars but many other lawmakers are in hiding.”
The police filed the case against the Chief Minister, Upper House MP Daw Thiri Yadana from Belin Township and Mon State MP U Kyaw Myo Min and Mon State MP Daw Mar Mar Khaing from Thaton Township under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code.
In addition, the township General Administration Department opened the case against Mon State Minister for Immigration and Human Resources U Tun Min Aung for the issuance of a statement about civil servants on behalf of the Chief Minister, under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code.
Currently, the police have only arrested the Chief Minister and MP Daw Mar Mar Khaing and the remaining MPs are in hiding.Due to the increase in the number of arrests of and charges against NLD MPs, most NLD members and other MPs are in hiding. Section 505 (a) and (b) carries the maximum imprisonment of two years and fine.
