The authorities filed a case against Mon State Chief Minister Dr. Aye Zan under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code, at Mawlamyine Township Police Station on February 26th.

Mawlamyine Township General Administration Department opened the case against him for sharing a video file in Mon State via social media on February 8th.

In his video file, Dr. Aye Zan said: “The people in Mon State are staging peaceful protests against the military dictatorship. At night, the people beat the pans to show their opposition to the military dictatorship. I take much pride in all my staff who joined CDM. I would like to request the public to also help bring about the release of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and President U Win Myint.”

 

Similarly, the authorities also filed a case against U Tun Min Aung, chief for Mon State Immigration and Human Resources under Section 505 (b) of the Penal Code for a statement saying that “After the formation of the people-elected government, relief will be granted for all the problems suffered by civil servants who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM)”.

Currently, the police are in hot pursuit of him.

The police also filed the cases against elected candidates Daw Thiri Yadana and U Kyaw Myo Min in Belin Township under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code. The police inspected their houses on the evening of February 25th and did not find them.

The police arrested some township chairs of the National League for Democracy (NLD) in Mon State under Section 505 of the Penal Code for their involvement in the anti-coup protests. Some others have gone into hiding.

Likewise, the police also arrested Mon State MP Daw Mar Mar Khaing from Thaton Township Constituency-2 on the evening of February 25th while she went to the Township General Administration Department with her husband.
