The elected candidates from the Mon Unity Party (MUP) who must follow the party’s directives in the course of carrying out parliamentary or government duties. A ceremony to sign the pledges by the winning candidates of the MUP took place in the presence of the CEC, in Mawlamyine Township on January 16th.

The pledge covers nine points. The MPs shall follow the party’s decision if they are assigned in parliament or in the government. They shall stick to the party’s political line. They must consult with the CEC over the submission of proposals.

“The elected candidates have already made a nine-point pledge since before the election. The party worries that they may forget these pledges. We remind them to follow the party’s directives,” added Naing Layi Tama.

Min Aung Htoo, the elected candidate from Yay Township Constituency-2 said: “According to its duty, the parliament must carry out the check and balance of the government. When the government is doing the right thing, we can cooperate with the government. As an MP I will submit proposals, give advice and criticize the government, if the government is doing the wrong things.”

The MUP won 12 seats in the 2020 General Elections.
