Zomi Congress for Democracy pays more attention to the topic under discussion, rather than the venue, for the meeting with the National League for Democracy (NLD), said Pu Gin Kam Lian, Secretary of the Zomi Congress for Democracy (ZCD).
“The NLD sent a letter to us about the establishment of a future union. But both sides have not met yet. It is not ok to meet in Teedim as the township has many COVID-19 positive cases. We could meet in either Kalay or Hakha, where the NLD office is located in Chin State. The venue is not the problem for us. We are ok to meet anywhere as long as the topic of the future union is on the agenda.
As part of its efforts to form the national unity government, the NLD is holding the talks with ethnic parties. The NLD’s meetings with ethnic parties in Mon and Kayah States were stymied by disagreement over the venue.
The NLD delegation led by Dr. Aung Moe Nyo met the Pa-O National Organization (PNO) and the Ta’ang National Party (TNP) at the NLD office in Taunggyi in Shan State on January 13th and the Shan Nationalities League for Democracy (SNLD), the Lahu National Democratic Party (LNDP) and the Shan National Democratic Party (SNDP) on January 15th.
Since 1990, the ZCD led by the politician Pu Gin Kam Lian has been in an alliance with the NLD. The ZCD secured two seats in the 2020 General Election in Chin State.
